By expanding a customer base a business has the capacity to expand ex potentially. However in order to expand in this manner it is necessary to employ more strategic marketing tools. One of these tools involves the use of SEO and website design.

There are thousands of websites designed on a regular basis which are vying for the market of customers that will help their businesses to thrive. Many of these businesses have some idea of that search engine optimization is. Some businesses may have been approached by companies offer SEO services and thought that it would make little difference in the overall impact of their marketability. However with careful planning and use SEO and website design are intricately linked when used as an effective marketing strategy.

SEO can play a vital role in the ranking of a business or company on the search engine directories. When websites are scanned there are certain key words that cause the entire website to be placed in a higher ranking than other website. These are the words or phrases that are used most often when people search a directory for a product, service, or information.

There are companies that offer website design services which do not have staff who are familiar with the concept or format requirements to incorporate SEO into the design of the site. There are SEO companies that do not have the staff on hand who have the unique skills and talents required to make a website design that is attractive and enticing for a visitor. However, in recent years there have been some companies created that provide both services and have the staff on hand that are trained to provide both SEO and website design.

Companies that select internal employees to create websites often find that the skills and expertise required are not available in a regular business setting. The field of SEO and website design is very specialized and requires a unique skill set that often is not found in an office or business setting. Companies that have a site designed then hire a full-time staff person to maintain the site often see much better results and also find that the long term cost effectiveness makes the initial investment of an outside resource well worth it.

When a specialized SEO and website design company is retained by a business there are many meetings held to create a design that will be effective and attract the target audience for the product or service. The language of the content must be carefully thought out and placed in the body of the website in a manner which will elicit positive responses from visitors to the site.

Many website designers have perfected techniques for creating sites that are user friendly and provide the look that is required to attract a large audience. It is the purpose of SEO to take the site one step further and provide the content within the design that will increase traffic to the site and raise the search engine ranking of the site.

A growing business finds very quickly that a well designed website affords the company many long-term benefits. The customer base is expanded from a local market to a global market, the sales of products and services increases, and the objectives of a business are more easily met. SEO and website design can be costly in the initial stages, however these costs are quickly offset by the increased sales and customer interaction that is attained.

Weighing the Different Options in Small Business Opportunities

The entrepreneurial spirit is indisputably alive and well these days. With online businesses having proven their viability beyond the shadow of a doubt, more kinds of startups are flourishing now than at any other period in history. Nevertheless, a small business is nothing to dive into before doing a great deal of research.

Ideally, you will be able to start a business close to your heart. There are a few questions you ought to ask yourself before making any decisions. First of all, consider your most basic impulses. What are the first thoughts which pop into your head when you wake up every morning? You want to isolate what drives you before everything else affects your focus. Next, assess how far you are willing to go. Would you feel comfortable diving into your ideal field without holding back? The answer will tell you how to handle your business. If you are thinking of your investment as strictly money, it might not be a bad thing, as you will be open to adapting.

If you plan on starting a business close to your heart, you will discover a number of advantages. Naturally, the material is unlikely to bore you. Also, you will never have trouble explaining a concept to a client. Your expertise will be both valued by the public and considered second-nature to you. The most important thing for this type of business is maintaining a certain amount of flexibility. For example, if you are expert in web design and want to begin offering your services for hire independently, remember the customer service end of the business. It is no longer acceptable to be the technical wiz without people skills. Assess your strengths and weaknesses honestly.

If you are looking for a strictly money-making project, then something like a franchise might be ideal for you. This type of business comes ready-made, with the business model and product completely tested and proven in the marketplace. If you have a natural business sense, you should be able to get a franchise up and running smoothly. The challenge will be learning the ins and outs of the product itself. For example, running a fast food franchise will be difficult for someone not experienced in the kitchen, beyond the customer service and management issues.

Even if you are willing to take the plunge in a small business venture, don’t dive in without a safety net. Keeping just enough savings to start over – or to weather an unforeseen storm – is advised.

Small business opportunities pop up all over the place. You may find an opportunity online which sounds great, or simply see the need for a new business in your community.

Even if your first project doesn’t have the type of success you expected, there is no reason to be discouraged. Every successful business owner has had his/her share of failure.

The bottom line about starting a small business is you can realize the dream of independence. Imagine waking up each day as the boss and watching a project succeed under your own banner.

The Five Challenges Facing Any Small Business

As most experts had predicted, the entrepreneurial spirit has not just thrived in the Age of the Internet, it has actually increased. Anyone with a good idea and the business model to back it up can find a way to get started. Soon enough, that entrepreneur will be calling his or her startup a small business, and thus face the challenges common to all budding businesses.

Most people are surprised to learn that big corporations make up just a small portion of the businesses operating in any country. More often than not, the economy is fueled by a collection of small businesses that provide essential services to the local population and are in touch with a larger community via the internet. No matter where or how you are conducting a business, you are going to face a set of challenges. These are the top five to confront.

1. Staffing concerns. A poll conducted among small business owners pointed to staffing concerns as the top challenge each must face. How is it possible to keep the best employees once they have mastered the business? A key decision must be made: whether to share profits or not, risking the departure of the best staffers to corporations happy to pay higher salaries. Before such an event occurs, see if there isn’t some form of benefit package which might make everyone happy.

2. Keeping the capital flowing. Before the economic crisis which began in 2008, credit was one of the lesser concerns of small businesses. It has become much more important as the banks have stopped awarding loans so easily. Using a company credit card should always be the last resort, but the capital must keep flowing in order to stay competitive.

3. Preparing for the worst amidst good times. Expecting a crisis was hardly a part of the typical business plan, yet it cannot be ignored now. As the sage planners say, pretend like there’s always a crisis around the corner and none will ever hit. Another way to look at is to take gambles only when the worst-case scenario won’t bury the company. Re-invest when the money is flowing and keep debts low.

4. Solving technical issues. Websites and office software must be constantly updated so the business can stay competitive, both in the public’s eye and in office productivity. If there is no room in the budget to have a full-time tech specialist, keep a dependable freelancer on call for any major issues the company faces.

5. Maintaining licenses and permits. It is typical to face licensing and permit concerns early on in the life of the business and forget about them once all major functions commence. For this reason, small business owners should assign the regular license renewals to top managers, making sure they get down on time and without problems with the authorities.

The good news for small businesses is there will not be too many departments involved when an issue has to be addressed. If the key members on staff stay focused, there is no obstacle which can’t be sidestepped.

The Five Elements of Powerful Web Design Strategy

There is nothing simple about designing a website. Anyone using the internet on a regular basis – whether for work or for personal matters – instinctively evaluates each website he or she navigates through, judging each page on effectiveness and style.

For whatever reason you are launching a website, the goals are going to be the same. You want to keep visitors interested and allow them to move freely from the home page without getting jammed. If at any point a visitor feels confusion, chances are they are moments away from leaving.

That type of exit is precisely what you are trying to avoid with your web design strategy. Since you know what you want to be included, you shouldn’t have to consider jettisoning different features because of poor design. Make sure you get it right in the beginning and you will have less of a hassle trying to make small upgrades later. These five elements are part of any powerful web design strategy.

1. Make navigation easy. This rule tops the list because it can never be overstated. Websites which feature tedious paths to follow are not popular. A website doesn’t have to wow a visitor from the get-go, but it should allow visitors to see all it has to offer with minimal fuss. One tip is to keep links to a minimum on the home page. Drop-down menus offer the developer many options, as do duplicated links of site highlights. There is no point in hiding the jewels.

2. The layout is clear and clean. Getting the spacing right is no small feat, but it is one of the ingredients of any good website. Whether your pages are content-heavy or picture-heavy, let the material breathe, with plenty of white (or whatever background color) space for it to stand out. Remember also that different fonts can be problematic on certain computers, so plan accordingly.

3. Different screen resolutions don’t pose a threat. Certain websites will naturally have long pages of content, whether it’s a news-based site, a blog or any other text-heavy portal. Remember that screen resolutions are different and that your site should be able to stretch in order to keep scrolling to a minimum.

4. Pages load without any significant delays. Flashy graphics can be thrilling for visitors to see, but if you see a “page loading” sign for over 30 seconds, the thrill most certainly will be gone. Try to manage these graphics wisely. Also, don’t let your site become bogged down with unused codes and other clutter which will cause visitors to get bored and leave.

5. Keep a scale in mind. Because there are so many changes to computers and to the internet itself, the only thing to be sure of is that it will all change. For this reason, work with a design that can be scaled and limit the amount of updates required in the future. A review of the last major changes will be instructive.

Damian Papworth realizes business owners have issues with Small Business website design. This is why so many have basic design flaws. To assist he published the book Small Business Websites, advising business owners about the internet in a style that is ieasy to understand.

5 Things You Shouldn’t Consider Doing If You Aim To Come up with a User-friendly Website

Company advertising reached a different era gaining passage to the populous electronic world. Investments in the field of commerce have found a route in the microchip setup and companies from everywhere often give the same importance to their physical and electronic workplace if not more. And when you’re talking about your company’s website for web advertising, you can only want nothing else but designing a user friendly website that readers will patronize.

Realizing the need for a user friendly website for your company isn’t the end of all your worries. You might then start asking, what defines a true user friendly website? You start searching for tips on designing a user-friendly website only to find yourself confused with all the suggestions you’d find. So instead, you should know the five things to avoid in creating that portal with the right cutting edge.

1. Anything much is less especially when you are dealing with website fonts. Tiny fonts are nothing but an eye strain. Massive fonts, basically, would not strain a reader’s eyes but may cause a finger sprain because of too much scrolling. And a font that is too fancy might have that aesthetic quality but try avoiding such fonts in designing a user-friendly website since what is pleasing to look at might not be that pleasing to read.

2. Heavy use of graphics on your website’s pages isn’t a smart move when you want it to be user-friendly. Keep image use light and minimal for easy webpage loading. Not all users have the super speedy internet connection available at their disposal. Besides that, you would also save a lot of web server space; fewer graphic, more space which means a lot of electronic shelf for other information needed by readers.

3. Loud colors, too dark or too bright colors are under this classification, must be avoided in web page designing. Monitors differ in resolution specifications; a certain brightly colored image might look like a glowing picture in a certain monitor used by some of your electronic visitors. It is always best to choose the colors which can be classified under the universally safe colors strata. User-friendly website designing requires that all users get to enjoy their visit without the eye sore.

4. Pop-up advertising and banner ads posted on your website mean money but it is never a good thing to keep on blocking the site entry of your readers with a band of pop-ups. What means profit to you might be bothersome to people who visit your website. On the case of banner ads, just remember that these banner ads mean lots of graphical objects inserted in the web page. Go back to Rule 2 to remind you of the implications of heavy graphics. If you don’t overpopulate your site with these ads, then you’ll find your site swarming with constant and new visitors.

5. Designing a user friendly website for your company means elimination of a splash page, an introduction page containing the link leading to your real site. Users would find it more convenient if they don’t have to do multiple clicks and wait a minute longer to gain access to your company’s website; your site could never be called user friendly if waiting is part of your electronic visitors’ routine.

Making sure that you have a user-friendly website is imperative when you want to succeed online.. However, doing it on your own can be a daunting task. Seek consultation from search engine experts through http://www.thesearchenginepros.com

SEO Design For Top Search Engine Ranking

For anyone designing a new web site, search engine optimization is top of mind. Have you chosen a good niche for your website to focus on? Without the right focus, all of the SEO in the world wont help you drive traffic. Have you also considered a simple design that improve our chances of top search engine rankings?

Search engine optimization of web site design is easy if you know what to do. Even if you have done all of the planning and preparation that you can to guarantee a functional website, you must consider the needs of search engine spiders and SEO.

The first step in SEO design is to start with an site designed in html. Additionally, the use of a cascading style sheet is essential. Cascading style sheets allow you to design with minimal code. This keeps your site optimized while providing a consistent look across all web pages. Your design must be simple and effective to be search engine optimized.

Web pages should all have a unique set of meta tags including title, description, and keywords. Additionally, the keywords you are trying to optimize for should be contained within your meta tags and on page as well. Your template should have your keyword phrase at the top of your page as well as at the very end of your page.

One simple way to apply this technique is by beginning your title tag with a keyword phrase. Additionally, include a copyright notice followed by your keyword phrase in a clean simple flow. One example is Copyright 2009. WebmastersBookofSecrets.com Marketing Expert. Marketing expert in this example is the keyword and is the last text on your page.

In addition to including your keyword at the beginning and end of your web page template, consider the following SEO design techniques. Include your keyword phrase in heading tags such as H1 and H2. Shoot for a keyword density of around 3 to 5 percent. Finally, be sure that your keyword phrase is in bold, italic, and underlined. Well optimized sites keep their word count between three and six hundred words.

By using simple seo design techniques that help expose your keyword phrase to search engine spiders and making each page simple to scan, your website ranking will be improved. To take advantage of seo design, keep things simple and the results will follow.

Business Website Design Strategies Generating Highest Ranking and Most Traffic For Your Site

Most conversations between website developers or graphic design firms and clients, small business or otherwise, follow along the same basic lines. Clients express how they’d like the graphics to look, the certain look and feel they want sites to have, the impressive designs they want conveyed. They often share how they feel about their sites and the importance of making them look incredible and different.

The best website design regardless of clients requirement for excitement, is one that is pleasing to the eye. But the web design that captivates the audience and wanting for more is “the content”. The most amazing graphics and incredible flash web design will lose its luster after the first few seconds of the visitor’s amazement. What keeps him or her at bay is the rich relevant contents.

The website flash design and incredible website graphics must also have infusion of fantastic contents that captivates the visitor.

For years, I only built the most attractive sites for my clients – for basic information, e-commerce, shopping cart designs, small businesses, large businesses, language-specific sites and any number of others. My primary purpose was a spectacular-looking site. The rest of the process, including content, was secondary.

I would simply take the content provided by the client and plug it into an intuitive and well-designed site. It was always highly professional with lots of flashy and over-the-top, eye-catching elements. Usually, the customer was more than satisfied with the end-product. Many graphic design companies, or website design firms offering cheap prices, may be content to continue operating under this model.

But looking back on that philosophy, I have to laugh. The World Wide Web has changed so drastically. As more and more people get on the web, the savvier they get and the thirstier they are for good, solid information, and lots of it.

In this new and evolving Internet era, a new approach is necessary. Now web development companies must glean from their clients the best of their knowledge and expertise on the chosen subject matter. They should then determine how to best categorize this information for maximum impact on a website. When the web developer pours the right information into the right categories, a site visitor will easily find it via a search engine and then stay for a while surfing within a well-built, content-driven site.

The next most important element is to spray well researched keywords within the paragraphs and pages of a well designed website. The highest ranking sites have the most relevant keywords strategically placed inside the contents of the site. Contents are what keeps the visitor glued to the screen within the pages of the site.

Promoting great content is the key to survival of the website and using social media cloud and other technologies to entice the surfer to visit and view those contents is key.

Then there are the endless blog entries, articles and videos being uploaded to sites all over the World Wide Web.

I know what’s necessary for your site to compete in this environment. We always use the latest and most sophisticated methods to design your site and place your information in front of the desired audience. Our job as web designers and web promoters has changed radically. We are now more fully engaged in the optimization and promotion of the websites we design than ever before.

The true goal of a website today is to be in front of as many targeted visitors as possible with intent to keep the visitor at the site for as long as possible with highly relevant information.

It is now the responsibility of the website designer, ecommerce developer to not only provide a high quality website design but also incorporate all elements that support optimization, ranking and good traffic.

It takes a lot of effort to make sure site content is ranked at the highest possible level in the most important search engines. On the web, number one is the only one that visitors will flock to in droves, so number two will get five to ten times less traffic, and so on down the line.

Our responsibility is to first help our clients generate fantastic contents and to incorporate those optimized contents with well balanced site. We then promote the site to the first position of google and with proper processes ensure their ranking for a long time.

We take pride in our ability to meet our customers’ needs. We build great sites and help you promote them to number one in the search engine rankings. We want to meet and exceed the goals of your website. You can measure our success and yours when the websites we design for you meet your goals, land at the top of the most important search engines and bring maximum traffic to your website.

Marketing a Portfolio Site 101

For web designers and web developers (as well as other professionals, such as photographers) the portfolio website is one of the most important assets. In many cases the portfolio site will be a leading source of inquiries from potential clients, and it is the best way to showcase your work to anyone who is interested.

Despite the importance of portfolio websites, it is very difficult to actually get yours in front of potential clients. There are so many designers and developers with portfolio sites that it causes intense competition. If you are not marketing your portfolio site effectively you will be missing out on possible business.

This article will cover some basic things that you can do to market your online portfolio and make a bigger impact on a higher number of potential clients.

1. Consider Search Engines

SEO (search engine optimization) is a huge topic that could never be covered in one brief article. However, one of the basics of optimizing a site for search engines is to simply make it easy for the search engines to crawl the site so they can accurately determine what the site is about.

Creating a search-friendly site is all about making it easy for search engines to crawl through your site and determine what it is about. This involves things like using heading tags and opting against any questionable tactics that may trick or confuse search engines.

2. Optimize Your Page Titles

One of the most important factors for search engine rankings is the page title, so give plenty of attention to the titles that you use. Think about what people will be searching for and what will help them to find you.

There are already millions of sites and pages that cover topics related to web design, so going after general keywords like “website design” is not likely to result in high search engine rankings. Instead, focus of phrases that are more specific and likely to have less competition, that will give you a better chance to earn high rankings.

Consider specific words and phrases such as “e-commerce web design.” This is descriptive of the services provided but will eliminate a lot of competition as compared to more general keywords, meaning you will have a better chance for a good ranking.

3. Don’t Forget About Localities

One way to make your website stand out is to optimize it for local searches. For example, instead of targeting the phrase “web designer,” try targeting “Philadelphia web designer.” This will drastically decrease the competition that you have for search rankings and it is something that local clients would actually search for.

4. Link Building

Along with the page title, links from other websites are as influential to search engine rankings as any other factor. In a way, search engine rankings are a bit of a popularity contest. Google views a link as basically a vote. When you link to another website you are essentially endorsing it.

If you want to dominate the search engines you will need to focus your efforts on getting links from other websites. There are any number of approaches you could take for a portfolio site, but here are a few:

Start a blog – Putting a blog on your domain is a very effective way to start getting links. Bloggers link to other bloggers quite frequently, so blogging and getting connected will certainly help here.

Market your site and blog via social media – SMM is a great way to get links. Articles that draw a lot of attention from social media users will generally get a lot of links.

Reciprocal links – You can exchange links with other websites, just don’t go overboard and do this with hundreds of sites or it will put up red flags for search engines.

Get your site featured in design galleries – There are hundreds (maybe even thousands) of web design and CSS gallery sites that showcase excellent work from various designers. You can submit your site and if it is good enough you can build a lot of links this way.

5. Make it Attractive

In order to get your portfolio site accepted at design galleries it will need to be of very high quality. When designing and developing your portfolio site don’t rush and lose quality. Take the time to make it the best that you are capable of.

6. Use Freebies to Draw People In

People like to get things for free, so if you can give something away from your website (i.e. icons, stock photos, blog themes, etc.) you may be able to attract a lot of links and new visitors.
